- Insurance Policy
The University of Debrecen has decided to introduce some changes concerning its approach to health insurance. Due to some uncomfortable
situations arising from some students not having a proper health insurance we have decided to make the University's own construction obligatory
for all applicants who are required to apply for a student visa.
The insurance covering the Fall semester is valid from August 20th and includes coverage for travel to Hungary as well. We are sending information
to Hungarian Embassies so that they would accept it for visa purposes. For this reason a copy of the insurance contract will be sent together with
the originals of the admission and visa letters. The contract is valid only with the student's signature so please make sure to sign them.
As requirement for the validity of the insurance each student will have to go through a medical checkup upon arrival to Debrecen. This consists of a
blood test an X-ray and a general health status examination. Please note that illnesses brought from home are not covered. As you see in the attached
copy of the contract the limit of cover is HUF 2 million. It is insufficient in cases of chronic and recurring illnesses like HIV, Hepatitis and
Tuberculosis. According to Hungarian legislation those suffering from the contagious form of Tuberculosis will have to be quarantined and given
involuntary treatment. So please emphasise the importance of being free of these illnesses before arriving.
The insurance and medical checkup fees will be temporarily deducted from the student's tuition fees that they will have to repay upon arrival. If the
student's visa application is rejected the student will have to return us the copy of the insurance contract. If he/she fails to do so his/her insurance
and medical checkup fees will be deducted from the refund of tuition fees.
Please note that with this change in the rules we intend to protect our students. Recent unfortunate experience shows that insurances that only
refund fees of medical treatments later are less than insufficient in case of a serious illness.
