M Sc in Public Health
The aim of the M Sc course in Public Health is to train specialists who are capable of monitoring public health
problems and planning, implementing and evaluating interventions to solve them
Short description of the MPH degree of the School of Public Health, University of Debrecen
The educational program of the Master of Public Health corresponds to the needs of public health services and
health care policy institutes, and is in line with European accreditation requirements. The program provides Master
in Public Health degree after a one-year training course for those having M Sc or equivalent degree; the study period
is two years for those having B Sc degree to obtain the MPH degree. The curriculum covers all the major subfields
of public health: biostatistics and epidemiology, environmental health, health promotion, health management, health
policy. Writing a thesis is also part of the educational program.
Postgraduate degree (M Sc) course in public health
The objective of the M Sc course in Public Health is to equip those who have completed their studies with
knowledge and skills for
- monitoring of the health status of the population;
- analysing the factors influencing the health status of the population;
- exploring and prioritizing health-related needs and requirements;
- drafting of local, regional and national health policy aimed at solving public health problems;
- planning and organising services to promote health, prevent and cure diseases based on the needs of the
target population;
- implementing and managing health-promoting and disease-preventing interventions, and finally
- analysing and evaluating the effectiveness of those services and interventions.
Specialists who have completed their studies at the department will have acquired thorough knowledge in
epidemiology, health promotion, health care management, and health care policy.
